Employed! part III

So I just got a job offer from Jack Benny Middle School in Waukegan, Illinois. It's about an hour north of the city, near Great America if any of you have been to the amusement park.

The area is pretty low-income, high minority population. Its a school where I know I can make difference. I'm pretty excited, although I was holding out hope that I would end up in Michigan. Maybe someday...

Anyway, congrats Jason, the classroom looks really spiffy. And congrats Sherry and Irina. Nichole, did you take the job in L'Anse Creuse?

Everyone use this blog to chronicle your first years teaching and beyond.

Good luck

Employed!

Hey all, I figured I would let everyone know I recently became employed. I will be working at McMichael High School in North Carolina. I am living in Greensboro.

I got offered the interview last Tuesday, interviewed on Thursday at 2pm and accepted the job the next morning because I loved the area and the school, but it all happened really fast. I am moving out of Michigan on the 14th and I start work on the 18th.

I am teaching Earth Science for two periods and Algebra for the other period. In NC they have block scheduling where they have 4 classes a day for an hour and a Half each, but they only take the classes for a semester. So I only have 3 classes a day and then an hour and a half planning period.

That is about all I know as of now, but if anyone wants to visit I have plenty of space !! Also, Guiliford county in NC is looking for teachers and its right by me!!

Ms Physics Teacher: Why Do I Need to Know This?

Scientific illiteracy is sweeping the world. One recent article I came across is from India.
Authorities are investigating reports that disabled children in India were buried up to their necks during this week's solar eclipse as a supposed remedy for their handicaps.
Officials said Thursday they were looking into reports that some 34 children aged 2 to 7 were buried in sand up to their chins -- with the consent of the parents -- in the belief that doing so during an eclipse would cure the children of their disabilities.
Let's go through the logical strain of reasoning of how a solar eclipse cures the disabled. Oh wait, there is no logic here. Kids stay in school

Employment!

Well, I've decided to take a big leap out of my native Ann Arbor. I got a job teaching in Gallup, New Mexico (2 hours west of Albuquerque). Perhaps, not a big surprise but it is a Catholic school, Gallup Catholic High. Only 125 students, which means I'll be teaching Chemistry, Biology, Physical Science, and Religion. Challenging, but should be a good experience. Everyone, I have meet so far has been really nice, and I will have some students from the Navajo Reservation. But I will have to learn to watch out for Rattlesnakes and venomous spiders!

Hope everyone's job search is going well, let me know where you are headed. And if you ever need a place to stop or stay while driving down Route 66 or I-40 let me know.

Career Fair

Another career fair for me. This is a third one now, I feel like I'm becoming a professional at navigating the train wreck that a career fair is. But today's fair is on a Tuesday, perhaps less people will shop up since it's a work day, but then again may be much more will show up because the school is out.

How is it going gang? Hows the job search for you?
